Serbia: We are not coming to lose
Mr. Zoran Zdravkovic, Director of Serbian Minifootball Association, presented in detail with what forces Serbia is coming to the WMF World Cup 2019.
When it comes to the full staff of 19 people in total, from Serbia to the World Cup are coming 15 players, 2 coaches, one official from Serbian Minifootball Association and one journalist from the national TV station.
Mr. Zdravkovic was honest when it comes to the development of minifootball in his country: “In our minifootball Association, we have 6 cities with 12 amateur leagues, over 200 teams, and more than 2.000 players. Unfortunately, in our country minifootball is still not recognized as an official sport and we do not have any support from the government.”
This for sure would not be the case if Serbian team makes a good results record during the World Cup, and expectations are not small in that regard: “We expect that this will be the biggest event in the history of minifootball and for us, the big achievement is just to show up on this tournament. Certainly, we are not coming to lose, and we will give our best to achieve the best possible result.”
As for the favorites, “for sure current European and World champions Czechs and runners-up Mexico, Romania, Senegal, Chile and home team Australia.”
Onto the trickiest questions of all, Mr. Zdravkovic answered: “We got two favorites in our group – Czech Republic and Chile and if we pass the group everything will be possible. If you ask me, I would like to avoid Mexico and Romania in the knock out phase. If we reach the finals, then it wouldn’t matter to whom we will be playing with.”
