Georgia’s breakthrough – presentation of the team for the WMF U23 WC
We will have new teams that will be competing for the first time on an international event such as World Cup.
What we learned during the correspondence with Mr. Otar Abuladze from Tbilisi City Assembly, Sports and Youth affairs Commission is that their strongest side is a huge motivation.
This is exactly what would be the key to big success, and they are having it in a vast proportion.
There are other interesting details that we found out about Georgia’s team.
We are conveying the whole interview:
Are you prepared for the World Cup you are partaking in?
Our preparations began in early spring. We organize school/college leagues every year. This year, 84 teams and over 1000 players are participating in the league ending July 20th. As this is our first international participation, we decided to form the U23 team entirely from school/college League players.
What are the best sides and strengths of your team, and what are the points that need improvement?
A strong point would be a huge motivation. Although our weakness can be considered the lack of practice in international tournaments and the age of our players, while this is a team based on a school/college league, our players are 17/18 years old. However, we hope to be a competitive team, and after the first match in the World Cup, which will show our strengths and weaknesses, we can use that little time to improve the team strategy.
Has the situation with COVID-19 influenced your work and the way you do minifooball?
Because of COVID-19, we lost not only almost one year, but unfortunately, it also influenced our projects which were planned in a 2-3 year period.
What are your expectations from the World Cup you are partaking in?
To qualify from the group stage would be considered a success.
Would you like to share anything else?
I would like to thank a big family of international minifootball for giving us this opportunity of integration which is crucial in the development process of minifootball in Georgia.
We are working on the development of minifootball together and we also thank the Georgian team for joining in.
