First day of WMF Women’s World Cup 2021 made of fire
During the first day of the WMF WWC 2021, we witnessed the density of energy that female teams brought to Ukraine.
And they had important support as valuable words about the emergence of female teams in the male dominated sport we got from the WMF Secretary General Ms. Zorica Hofman: “It is a real pleasure to partake in such global sporting event that involves young and promising female minifootball stars to become. I’m proud of all the girls that are showing their skills on the field, and I hope the platform that we are creating for the development of minifootball will serve them and their communities to grow, to win, and to contribute to their success. I, supported by WMF and actors in the minifootball on a global scale, aim to make historical movement in this sport and to open doors for talented sportspersons, especially in these difficult times for sport.”
So, the games began.
Switzerland opened their Group A play with a 4-2 win over host Ukraine. The Swiss took a 2-1 halftime lead on goals by Scilla Grossi and Irene Terranella. Ukraine tied the game early in the second half, but Switzerland scored back-to-back goals directly from corner kicks by Grossi and Clara Lucchini.
Team India is the youngest here and the greatest too! And they are also courageous as they decided to compete during the world championship, even though being 16 years old on average. But, they did not have an easy task. Nikolina Batinic scored six goals as Serbia overwhelmed India 18-1. Tamara Perlinac and Milica Andric added hat tricks for Serbia who led 12-0 at halftime.
The United States came out flying, scoring in the first minute and not slowing down. The final result was an 18-0 win over Moldova. Alivia Milesky, Kennedy Kessler, and Natalia Torres Diaz were brilliant.
Team Egypt had a good start and the day ends well, as we would add that the match between Egypt and Guatemala ended at 5:0 for Egypt after the official cut.
